ARSITY PERFORMANCE GROUP

March 13, 2018 - Varsity Performance Group and the Huntersville American Legion Post 321 have agreed to partner for the 2018 summer baseball season.  A long tradition of American Legion Baseball in Huntersville will continue under the combined management of the Sons of the American Legion and Varsity Performance Group's Line Drive Academy.

Ed Warren, Owner of Varsity Performance will coordinate with his Line Drive Academy coaching staff to hold player tryouts for a Senior Legion Roster comprised of rising seniors, and recently graduated high school players.  The team will carry 18 players with a few spots reserved for alternates.  According to Warren, "The legion team will provide older high school players with a chance to compete one more summer before many of them head off to college.  For those players that have already signed college scholarships, they don't need to spend big money on travel and showcases, because they already have their plan in place.  We want to be that alternative for those players and families."

Warren expands on the challenges posed by the legion rules around building rosters.  "We have to add up the enrollment figures for 10th thru 12th grade in our local schools.  If a large school, like Hough, Hopewell or North only has one player tryout, keeping that player becomes a math problem - even if he is really good.  Can you afford to take one athlete if the enrollment count takes up 50% of your allotment?  You need solid participation from the larger schools, and then work to complete the roster with the smaller schools.  Or you have to leave a big school out altogether.  It's not like our showcase programs where we have players from as far away as Myrtle Beach on our rosters."

The legion baseball season takes place mostly in the month of June, with state playoffs beginning around the July 4th holiday.  The team will play its home games at North Mecklenburg High School, with away games usually less than a 1-hour drive.  Tryouts will be announced in the coming weeks and the team hopes to attract players from all of the schools in the Huntersville area.

LINE DRIVE ACADEMY - There are many organizations that offer athletic instruction, but not many take our approach.  As a spin-off from our Showcase Baseball Organization, we developed a methodology of "old school" work blended with a current understanding of  Kinetic Chain Movements to generate efficient athletic execution.  Our athletes receive custom instruction based on their current skills and stage of development.

Our teams offer players of different ages and skill levels a chance to participate in competitive baseball from developmental programs to showcase programs.  We are working to compete with the larger brands at a fraction of the cost for our athletes and families.
